I'm an American who tricked myself into moving to Barcelona 12 years ago and consider it the best decision I've ever made. I've spent my time discovering my passion for the city and working as a freelancer, giving English classes and developing a business giving personalized tours to travelers who come to the city. My sights have always been on learning languages and cultures with the idea of moving to other cities around the world in order to do so. During the pandemic, I was able to take the time to focus on making this a possibility by doing a bootcamp learning full stack web development, with the idea of getting into tech so that I could move around easily and still work. Since the bootcamp finished I have been involved in one of the organizations that stemmed from the bootcamp, called CodeWomen as part of the organizing team. I knew that after the bootcamp finished I would easily get wrapped up in my regular working life as a tour guide (which is my passion) and it would be difficult to maintain my connections in the tech community, so my thought was to stay connected as an organizer so that the tech world is also a part of my regular life now. Although I am not a regular programmer, I am a communicator, which I consider an important feature when working with people for projects. Even in the bootcamp, communicating was key for me to be able to express my questions in order to learn, as well as to share my knowledge with my peers in order for everyone to succeed.
